Running is my least favorite activity but a necessary one to try and stay in some sort of shape (even if it is the shape of a pear). I usually spend my time on an elliptical or running on a treadmill at the gym in front of a tv with ESPN on. One day last week I didn't have time to get to the gym and so I decided to run on the road we live on. As I left the house and headed down the street I was thinking about the fact that with each stride I took
it was taking me farther away from my geographical goal, which was to be back home again. The thought of turning around and heading home prematurely crossed my mind more than once. I finally reached the point where I turned around and headed back toward my house. Now the motivation had changed. Instead of each stride taking me further away it was now bringing me closer to my goal. As I turned the last bend in the road I could see my house and I picked up the pace. With my goal in sight I was not tempted to let up any more, now I was pressing toward the goal with determination.
Believe it or not, it is already the middle of May. The ministry year is almost over. You have made it past the days in November and February when you felt like throwing in the towel. You have turned the last bend in your ministry year and summer is now in your sights. Don't let up now. Now is the time to get into a full sprint and finish strong. Make the extra effort now. Call that student or child. Have that small group activity that you have been thinking about doing all year. Pray for your young people like you have never prayed before. Finish strong and you will experience an even greater joy than a runner does at the finish line of a race. Press toward the mark!
"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" Phil. 3:14
